The old media argument rages in TOES Town, is it a control medium dominated by an elite or is it an educational tool? Folks try to make the best of it they can, and are fortunate in their awareness that there are plenty of alternatives to the national media syndicates. Several weekly and monthly papers cater to self-defined populations in TOES Town. The manager of the cable company thinks that advertising is manipulative and encourages subscribers to participate in the free access station which is supported by local community service organizations, all the local political parties, and a couple churches. The equipment they have for shooting and producing programming is rivaled only by the folks who keep the local radio station on the air 24 hours a day with a diversity of musical and news programming. Together, citizens of TOES Town are provided a cornucopia of entertainment, educational and news program, but only because they make it possible through their support for the product. Buying from businesses that support the local media and giving generously of their time and $ keep a wide range of media healthy in the region.
FAIR -- Fairness
&;Accuracy In Reporting
FAIR is the national media watch group offering well-documented
criticism in an effort to correct media bias and imbalance. FAIR
focuses public awareness on the narrow corporate ownership of the
press, the media's allegiance to official agendas, and their
insensitivity to women, labor, minorities, and other public interest
constituencies. FAIR seeks to invigorate the First Amendment by
advocating for greater media pluralism and the inclusion of public
interest voices in national debates.

The Institute for Global Communication is a gem among institutions on
the Internet. Is the Internet a communications media? Among many
links at this site is: Communications for a Sustainable Future. CSF
was founded on the idea that computer networking should be used to
enhance communications with the objective of working through
disparate views and ideologies to secure a more promising future.
There are quite a few other links broadening our ideas of media and
supporting "highest use" of the internet.
